Tussock Traverse

The Tussock Traverse is an iconic event in the Tongariro National Park. The event offers a 6.5, 13 or 26 kilometre run or walk through the heart of the Tongariro National Park. The course is limited to 500 participants. Check out the website to enter.

Ring of Fire

The Ring of Fire is an gruelling ultra-marathon that circumnavigates Mt Ruapehu. This challenging race traverses the challenging volcanic terrain of the area, and is one of the most challenging alpine adventure races in the Southern Hemisphere. Participants may enter the 72 kilometre (solo or relay) challenge or opt for the shorter 50 kilometre event. Additional information is located at the official Ring of Fire website.

The T42

The T42 is a 48 kilometre mountain bike race on the 42 Traverse track, located in close proximity to National Park. This track is a historic logging road and is known as one the best one day bike trails in the country! Not for the faint of hearted. Head to the T42 site for official information on the race

Suzuki Desert Storm

The Suzuki Desert Storm is a trail-riding event set over two days in the foothills of Mt Ruapehu. The event features over 140 km of fresh trail, with riders treated to catering and entertainment. The event date varies year to year, so be sure to check out their website for updated details.

The Goat Adventure Run

The goat adventure run is a 20 kilometre run from the Whakapapa to the Turoa ski fields on Mt Ruapehu. The course traverses incredible volcanic terrain in the UNESCO duel world heritage area; the Tongariro National Park. The race is typically held in early December.
